The number after the letter is the nominal capacity in hundreds of milliamp-hours, so a G30 is a 3,000mAh cell and an S35 is 3,500mAh.
Which cell for which use
Capacity and current rating pull in opposite directions. Higher-capacity cells (G30, S30, S35) run longer between charges; lower-capacity cells in the same size tend to have a higher continuous discharge rating and suit high-power builds. For a regulated mod at everyday wattages, any of the 18650s will do and the G30 or S30 gives the longest run time. For mechanical mods or very low builds, check the continuous discharge rating on the product page against your build and do not rely on the peak figure. Buy cells in matched pairs and keep them together; mixing cells of different age or grade in a dual-battery mod shortens the life of both and is a safety risk.
